Grass Valley knew it needed to change from the system it had been using to report on its sales order data. Besides being costly, inflexible, and inaccessible, ongoing maintenance required a specialized skillset. Reporting was limited, and new report requests were met with delays due to code development. Users were not getting timely answers to their important business questions. The company needed a solution that would more effectively manage and communicate sales and operations activity. It needed a more user-friendly, on-demand reporting tool that put power back in the hands of users and reduce costly layers between end-users and data.
Analytics8 replaced the company’s existing reporting system with a customized, cloud-base reporting solution using Birst. We also helped Grass Valley move its booking, invoice, and backlog analysis reporting into the cloud. Analytics8 worked closely with the Grass Valley team to create a model that would support its need to create ad hoc reports. Analytics8 also developed “base” reports and dashboards that users have the ability to copy and easily customize for the various combinations of data points they could be called upon to provide.
The solution provides Grass Valley with more self-service data analysis and shorter turnarounds on development requests for IT. The end result is a unified source of reporting which saves time on sales reporting, giving Grass Valley faster answers to business questions, without the delay and inconvenience of requesting every new report from developers. The company is also able to analyze information regarding clients, bookings, and sales in ways that were not possible before. With new confidence in its information and greater flexibility in reporting, Grass Valley has already begun streamlining processes and making cost-saving decisions for its company.
