Healthcare Tech Firm Lays Strategic Groundwork to Monetize Data at Scale

The Problem

Distributed Data sits at the center of a network of healthcare and technology companies, each generating valuable datasets — from claims validation to real-time geolocation. They saw the potential to monetize this information but faced a major roadblock: none of the data sources were connected and they had no infrastructure in place to unify or prepare these assets. Further, the healthcare companies had no means to evaluate their data’s value. Without a cohesive data strategy, they risked leaving high-potential revenue on the table.

The Solution & Results

Analytics8 assessed Distributed Data’s data maturity and market potential to identify what it would take to successfully monetize their datasets. We focused on understanding the structure of their data ecosystem and the demands of the marketplace, then delivered a targeted data strategy to align their people, processes, and technology for long-term success. The solution we implemented included:

  • Market research and pricing guidance to help Distributed Data understand what similar healthcare and geolocation datasets sell for, how pricing models vary, and how data value is assessed in real-world marketplace transactions. This will enable informed go-to-market decisions, avoiding underpricing or mispositioning of assets.
  • Use case development and buyer mapping to tie specific datasets (e.g., claims, geolocation, employment) to monetizable scenarios and identify target buyers like pharma companies, payers, government agencies, and retailers. This gives the client a strategic path to revenue, with clarity on what to sell, to whom, and why it matters.
  • Technology recommendations centered on Databricks and the Medallion architecture, including a roadmap for ingesting, transforming, and organizing raw data into marketplace-ready assets. We emphasized Databricks for its ability to support secure, governed workflows that align with HIPAA requirements and ensure sensitive healthcare data is protected throughout the process. This provides a scalable foundation for compliant data — critical for monetization at scale while ensuring data privacy.
  • Data readiness and governance assessment to outline what transformations, metadata, and quality standards are needed in their environment to meet marketplace requirements. This reduces risk of compliance issues and accelerates time to value once implementation begins.
  • Cost modeling and phased implementation plan covering tooling, people, and effort needed to operationalize the data strategy. This helps the client budget and plan realistically, while setting expectations for ROI over time.

With an end-to-end data monetization strategy that tied together market research, use case development, data readiness, and technology recommendations into a phased, actionable plan, Distributed Data now has a clear path from raw data to revenue, aligned to business goals and marketplace expectations.
