How a Financial Technology Provider Modernized Operational Reporting with Sigma

What we did

Migrated critical operational reports to Sigma before a legacy platform deadline, protecting continuity across banking, reconciliation, balancing, and compliance reporting.

Built and modernized 80+ Sigma reports with a focus on standardization, accuracy, and long-term maintainability — while improving the QA and tracking processes needed to keep a large-scale migration on schedule.

Reduced delivery risk, redirected 500+ hours of internal effort, and helped establish Sigma as the foundation for future in-house analytics and embedded customer-facing data widgets.

The Challenge

This financial technology firm provides digital banking technology for banks and financial institutions, including embedded tools and widgets that appear directly inside online banking portals. As part of a broader analytics modernization effort, the company needed to move more than 200 operational reports off JReport, a legacy PDF-based reporting platform, and into Sigma.

With the JReport license expiring and only a portion of reports migrated, the company faced a hard deadline, audit and compliance exposure if the migration was rushed, and an internal team without the bandwidth to do both at once.

The Solution

As a certified Sigma consulting partner, Analytics8 embedded consultants directly with the company’s team and focused on three areas:

The solution focused on three areas:

  • Rebuild reporting in Sigma without disrupting daily operations. Analytics8 built new Sigma reports from existing JReport logic and documented specifications, giving the client a way to move core operational reporting off the legacy platform while maintaining continuity for the teams that depended on those reports.
  • Standardize and future-proof the Sigma reporting environment. Analytics8 modernized existing Sigma reports into a standardized layout and control structure, then migrated reports to embedded custom SQL to reduce inconsistency and make the reporting environment easier to support over time.
  • Strengthen migration quality, visibility, and handoff. Analytics8 helped clean up JIRA and tracker gaps, surfaced reports that were missing from QA visibility, remediated defects, and used daily communication to keep development and QA aligned as reports moved through the migration process. Throughout, the team coached the client’s team on Sigma best practices through hands-on shadowing — building internal capability alongside delivery.

Business Impact

Working with Analytics8, the company retired JReport on schedule and transitioned fully to Sigma — turning a forced legacy sunset into a strategic upgrade that freed up internal capacity and set up the team for future analytics work.

The engagement helped them:

  • Avoid added legacy reporting costs. By completing the migration before the license deadline, the company avoided renewing a platform it was actively moving away from. That cost avoidance gave the business a clear, practical return from the engagement and helped shift investment toward a more scalable Sigma environment..
  • Give internal teams back time for higher-value work. Analytics8 redirected 500+ hours of internal team effort by taking on the heavy migration work, QA support, defect remediation, and coordination needed to keep reports moving. For our client, that meant the internal team could stay focused on strategic priorities instead of getting buried in repetitive report rebuilds and migration cleanup.
  • Keep the migration on track. Beyond building reports, Analytics8 cleaned up the project’s organization — fixing misrouted tickets, surfacing missing reports, and resolving defects that were creating bottlenecks — so nothing fell through the cracks and the team always knew where things stood.
  • Create a stronger foundation for future analytics work in Sigma. The migration moved the company away from the legacy JReports into a modern tool. With standardized Sigma reports, embedded custom SQL, and a cleaner migration workflow in place, the company is better positioned to expand reporting capabilities and support future embedded analytics use cases.
